Dr. Hess is a Clinical Psychologist and an educator with more than 50 years of distinction in her field. She attended Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education in 1968. Subsequently, she briefly worked as a secondary school teacher before realizing that her passion lay in helping children and youth in a clinical setting. Dr. Hess returned to Oakland University, earning a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology in 1973. Driven by a desire to contribute to the development of new therapists, Dr. Hess completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Walden University of Minneapolis in 2000.
From 1973 to 1978, Dr. Hess found success as a Psychologist at the Oakland County Child and Adolescent Clinic in Pontiac, Michigan, after which she began a private practice at the Medrano Clinic in Farmington Hills, Michigan, between 1977 and 1984. Concurrently, she associated with the Whaley Children's Center of Flint, Michigan, from 1978 until 1984. She joined the staff at the Psychoeducational Clinic of Grand Blanc, Michigan, from 1985 to 1987 before beginning her career with Lutheran Social Services in Washburn in 1989. Dr. Hess remained with Lutheran Social Services until 2003, working in Washburn and then Waukesha, WI. From 2003 until 2015 she worked at the Big Yellow House of Family Services of Waukesha. When Dr. Hess retired from Family Services of Waukesha, she became a supervisor at Northland Counseling, and has excelled as the owner and the principal consultant at MVHESS Consultants, LLC, since 2015.
Dr. Hess has led educational classes for the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and the Aurora Family Training Center in Milwaukee. She has done extensive work in organizations supporting parents of multiple births. She is the author of "Did You Say Two Babies?" published in 1986, and the founder and the former president of the Mother of Twins Organization of Clarkston, Michigan. She is active in the Catholic faith community and was the director of religious education at St. Louis Church of Washburn from 1989 until 2001. Dr. Hess has been a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association.
