Founded over 142 years ago, OSF Healthcare is an integrated healthcare network, serving patients of all ages in five regions across Illinois and part of Michigan. The company is a not-for-profit Catholic health care corporation that operates Medical group offices, hospital systems, and other healthcare facilities, including home health and hospice services, home medical equipment, home infusion pharmacy, personal response systems and a diabetes supply program in Illinois and Michigan.

Accepting this position after 35 years in the field, Ms. Swisher began her career as a staff nurse in pediatrics, at St. Mary Medical Center, then as an operational support nurse, a performance improvement/education coordinator and a home health aide supervisor, and later as a home health nurse case manager at OSF Home Care in Galesburg, Illinois, between 1980 and 2006. She subsequently found success as a staff nurse on the medical-surgical/ pediatric/oncology unit at St Mary Medical Center for the following 9 years. Moreover, Ms. Swisher served the aforementioned center as the chairman of the recruitment and retention committee as well as both the chairman, and the co-chairman of the unit-based council of the medical-surgical pediatric-oncology unit Ms. Swisher has also worked as a clinical instructor of the licensed practice nurse program at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg and as a CPR and first aid instructor for the American Heart Association, for which she remains active as a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) instructor since 2008. A former member of the Knox County Cardiovascular Task Force, she is a past board member of the Quad Cities chapter of the University of Illinois at Chicago Nursing Alumni Association. Likewise, Ms. Swisher is a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, the Illinois Farm Bureau and the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Ms. Swisher earned an associate degree from Carl Sandburg college in 1980 and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1990. Board certified in case management, she has obtained certification as a Basic Life Support provider and PALS provider through the American Heart Association. Ms. Swisher is further affiliated with Choral Dynamics as a part of a singing group that performs two shows per year to raise money for non-profit groups throughout Galesburg, Illinois.

The recipient of several recognitions, Ms. Swisher was presented with a Alumni Board of Directors Award from the University of Illinois Nursing Alumni Association and a Simply the Best Award from OSF Home Health. She additionally accepted a Daisy Award from St Mary Medical Center. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Swisher has been featured in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in the Midwest.
