Bradford Coolidge Oelman Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Bradford Coolidge Oelman recently joined the Coolidge Foundation, which commemorates the legacy of Calvin Coolidge and awards college scholarships to outstanding high school students.

An accomplished awardee, Mr. Oelman celebrates many years' experience in his profession and has been commended for his leadership qualities. A retired senior vice president of government and public affairs, Mr. Oelman worked for Owens Corning in Toledo, Ohio until 1998. Hired as director of government affairs, he was promoted to the role of senior vice president in 1986, an assignment which included chairing the Owens Corning contributions and political action committees. A Fortune 500 global company, Owens Corning develops and produces insulation, roofing, and fiberglass composites. Prior to joining Owens, Mr. Oelman was manager of government affairs for Armco Steel in Washington. He had also served as a foreign service and military liaison officer in the U.S. consulate in Bordeaux, France. In Washington, he was an economic analyst at the State Department and participated in the first round of Kennedy trade negotiations.

Mr. Oelman's career included being a member of an industrial design team, which developed a prototype ambulance for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He produced a film, "Count Down to Start Up," which showcased a $600 million investment made by Armco Steel in the mid-1960's to counter inroads of Japanese steelmakers. He led an industrial coalition that passed national legislation in 1978 to decontrol the price of natural gas. He was part of a team assembled by President Reagan to enact far-reaching tax legislation in the mid 1980's. Mr. Oelman was featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal in an article describing how his company successfully survived a hostile takeover attempt in 1988. He assembled a lobby team in Austin, TX, spearheaded by former Lyndon Johnson press secretary George Christian that succeeded in limiting the number of meritless suits filed in the Texas court system against Owens Corning.

In Washington, Mr. Oelman served as chairman of both the Energy Users Forum and Budget Control Working Group, served on the fiscal and monetary committee of the National Association of Manufacturers and was a trustee of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association. Between 1998 and 2000, Mr. Oelman was chief operating officer of the Civil Justice Reform Group.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, Mr. Oelman received his high school diploma at the Deerfield Academy, a private boarding school in Deerfield, Massachusetts. He subsequently acquired a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations at Stanford University in 1960, where he was a member of the varsity swim team. In 1961, he was awarded a Master of Arts at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. Mr. Oelman was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as a foreign service officer in 1961 and once more in 1963.

Mr. Oelman has remained active in his community by volunteering with Habitat for Humanity on projects in California, Ohio, Arizona and Georgia. He is a past president of the United Way of Middletown and Toledo OH, and the Landings Condominium Association of Delray Beach. He currently serves as president of the Ridge Cove Condominium Association of Chatham, Massachusetts, as well as the Oelman Foundation, a nonprofit foundation established in 1956 and headquartered in the Village of Golf, FL. He recently joined the Coolidge Foundation, which commemorates the legacy of Calvin Coolidge and awards college scholarships to outstanding high school students.

In retirement, Mr. Oelman has maintained his affiliation with several membership organizations including the Chevy Chase Club, the Country Club of Florida, the Stone Horse Yacht Club of Harwich Port, MA and the Ocean Club of Ocean Ridge, FL. He had been a member of the Dayton Polo Club, Browns Run Country Club of Middletown, OH, the Inverness Country Club of Toledo and the Gulfstream Bath and Tennis Club. The recipient of a steel fellowship from the American Iron and Steel Institute, Mr. Oelman is a celebrated Marquis awardee, having been featured in the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the East.
