Dr. Mark Meier Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

Dr. Meier has taught at the University of Houston since 2016

Backed by a wealth of knowledge in plasma diagnostics, engineering acoustics, geophysics and seismology, Dr. Mark Meier has had the honor of presenting his research at a number of conferences.

HOUSTON, TX, November 14, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Mark Meier has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Backed by a wealth of knowledge in plasma diagnostics, engineering acoustics, geophysics and seismology, Dr. Meier parlays his knowledge to students at the University of Houston, where he has excelled as a professor since 2016. Throughout his youth, he was privileged to have a number of teachers that fostered his interest in the sciences. The summer following sixth grade, he built his own telescope, at which point he knew he was going to have a future in physics.
Dr. Meier has developed novel methods and capabilities in plasma physics and in active seismology, including instrumentation to add several new octaves of low frequency bandwidth.

Prior to pursuing a career in education, he worked as a research specialist in science and engineering for ExxonMobil from 1998 until 2016, an adjunct physics professor at the University of Houston between 2012 and 2016, and both a research engineer and a scientist assistant for the University of Texas at Austin's Applied Research Laboratories and Fusion Research Center from 1988 until 1998. Moreover, Dr. Meier found success as a geophysicist for such companies as the Western Geophysical Company of America and Atlantic Richfield Company.

Over the years, Dr. Meier also contributed on the editorial board of the Journal of Seismic Exploration. Along with other scholars in the field, he authored such articles as "Theory for a low frequency marine dipole seismic source," "Converted-wave resolution," "Measurement of turbulent plasma by the time-domain triple-probe method" and "Adiabatic electron thermal pressure fluctuations in tokamak plasmas." Due to his considerable intellect, Dr. Meier has also had the honor of presenting his research at a number of conferences, including the 2015 Offshore Technology Conference, the 39th Annual Meeting of the American Physical Society's Division of Plasma Physics and the University of Houston Physics Colloquium.

Before embarking upon his professional path, Dr. Meier earned a Bachelor of Science in geophysics and geology from the University of Tulsa in 1982. Subsequently, he graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Master of Science in 1992 and a Doctor of Philosophy in electrical and computer engineering in 1998. Furthermore, Dr. Meier networks with other industry scholars and remains aware of industry developments through his affiliations with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the American Geophysical Union, the American Physical Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society.
