Dr. Donald Schwartz Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Ophthalmology

Dr. Donald Schwartz has been recognized among the Best Doctors in America every year since 1992.

A practicing ophthalmologist with decades of medical expertise, Dr. Schwartz has excelled as a physician with Long Beach Eye Care Associates since 1982. He has found additional success as the owner of EyeSonix, an innovative company with a patented method for glaucoma treatment using low-power, low-frequency ultrasound. Over the years, Dr. Schwartz has also shared his considerable knowledge of the field with medical students at the University of California Irvine, and the University of Southern California's Doheny Eye Institute, at the Keck School of Medicine.

Additionally, Dr. Schwartz contributed as an editor for the "Textbook of Ophthalmology," which was published by Williams and Wilkins. He further provided his expertise in the Journal paper "Therapeutic ultrasound for glaucoma: Clinical use of a low-frequency low-power ultrasound device for lowering intraocular pressure." Additionally, Dr. Schwartz has also devoted himself to the field through his work as a director of the American Board of Ophthalmology from 2005 to 2008 and as the chairman of the board for Eye Car Network from 2002 to 2008.

In the mid-1960s, Dr. Schwartz began pursuing his dream of a career in medicine by earning a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Optometry and a Doctor of Optometry at the University of California Berkeley. Subsequently, he obtained a Master of Public Administration in healthcare services from the University of Southern California in 1968 and a Doctor of Medicine from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in 1977. Dr. Schwartz retains his professional alignment with the California Medical Association and the California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, where he formerly served as the president.

An expert in the field, Dr. Schwartz has been honored many times, having been recognized among the Best Doctors in America every year since 1992. In the early 1990s, he was also presented with the Alumnus of the Year Award from the University of Southern California's Doheny Eye Institute and the Jules Stein Living Tribute Award from Retinitis Pigmentosa International.
