Retired chemical company executive Dr. Norman N. Hochgraf worked nationally and internationally in his field for 30 years.

Retired chemical company executive Dr. Hochgraf worked nationally and internationally in his field for 30 years. Hired as a research engineer for Exxon Research and Engineering in Linden, New Jersey, in 1955, he subsequently served as a manager of engineering for the organization until 1972 in Florham Park, New Jersey. Transferred to Essochem Europe, a regional arm of Exxon Chemical, headquartered in Brussels, shortly thereafter, Dr. Hochgraf remained overseas for six years in the capacity of the vice president of manufacturing and the vice president of chemical raw materials. Returning to the U.S., he spent an additional 12 years with Exxon Chemical Company in Darien, Connecticut, in various upper level positions.

During his career, Dr. Hochgraf was active on the corporate research advisory committee for Exxon Research and Engineering in Clinton, New Jersey, between 1983 and 1990. He also provided his expertise to Exxon Biomedical Sciences in Somerville, New Jersey, from 1986 to 1990. Renowned for his work in chemical engineering, Dr. Hochgraf was responsible for the use of GLC, an analytical technique for determining non-ideal hydrocarbon equilibria. Likewise, he developed a system for developing and teaching business strategies, an application of systems dynamics analysis for research and development, and a strategy and program regarding business support for K-12 science education.

Dr. Hochgraf received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering at the prestigious Princeton University in New Jersey in 1952. He soon after acquired a Master of Science in chemical engineering in 1954 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1956 at the University of Delaware. An elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he was committee chair of the Council of Chemical Research. After retirement, Dr. Hochgraf served on a hospital board and several committees. He has also created and funded a charitable foundation. Dr. Hochgraf has been featured in the second edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
