After completing a bachelor's degree in nursing at age 19, at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines Ms. Walters began her career as a Registered Nurse in the Philippines and in the United States. Later on, because she cannot work the shift work that nursing requires, she accepted employment with the Alaska Department of Labor as Employment Security Specialist/Claims Adjudicator. After 5 years as claims adjudicator she transferred to the placement division and soon became the top employment specialist.
She later changed careers and went into Human Resources starting as a healthcare recruiter and progressing to National Director of Human Resources for a health system in Illinois. In order to remain current with the changes in employment law, she maintained membership with the Society for Human Resources Management and National Association for Healthcare Recruiters. Due to lay-off, she moved to California and worked at the University of California San Diego until her retirement in 2003.
After retirement, she rejoined Lions Clubs International and became District Governor of San Diego and Imperial Counties 2018-2019. As a Lion, she is a recipient of numerous awards to include the International Presidential Leadership Medal. She also contributes to her community through her church and as a Legion of Mary.
