While he was attending high school in El Salvador during the late 1950s, Dr. Lozano was offered nursing, jurisprudence, pharmacy and engineering course options. He eventually decided upon medicine because he had always admired doctors and wanted to be like his uncle, who was a doctor. Upon meeting one of the most intelligent doctors he has encountered at Baylor University Affiliated Hospitals in Texas, Dr. Lozano was inspired to request training in internal medicine with an emphasis on nephrology and completed a fellowship in nephrology.

Various mentors who additionally motivated and inspired Dr. Lozano were Dr. Juan Jose Fernandez, Louis Edmundo Vasquez and Fernando Villalobos. Notably, he earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of El Salvador. Likewise, Dr. Lozano is a diplomate in American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Nephrology.

Currently retired, Dr. Lozano concluded his career after working as a medical director at the Kidney Center from 2001 to 2016. From 1987 to 1990, he was active as the medical director at the BMA Orange and BMA Jasper in Texas from 1986 to 1998. Dr. Lozano further served as the medical director at the Golden Triangle Dialysis Center from 1977 to 1998 and as a staff member of internal medicine at Saint Elizabeth Hospital, the Beaumont Medical/Surgery Hospital, and Baptist Hospital in 1976.

Dr. Lozano has held several professor positions at the Baylor College of Medicine, including a clinical assistant professor of medicine from 1976 to 1980, an assistant professor of medicine in nephrology from 1975 to 1976 and an instructor of medicine from 1974 to 1975. He previously excelled in his roles as an internist and a nephrologist at Social Security Hospital in San Salvador from 1971 to 1972, an assistant professor of medicine at the University El Salvador from 1971 to 1972 and a fellow in nephrology at Baylor University Affiliated Hospitals from 1970 to 1971 and from 1973 to 1974. A rotating intern at the National Medical Center in El Salvador from 1963 to 1964, Dr. Lozano conducted numerous residencies in internal medicine at Baylor University Affiliated Hospital during the period ranging from 1969 to 1970 and at Rosales Hospital mi San Salvador from 1965 to 1967.

The highlight of Dr. Lozano's career was when he became a doctor while he was living in El Salvador. At that time, he presented five cases in which he was in agreement with the findings of the pathologists. His first diagnosis focused on the kidney and no one else was able to make the diagnosis, not even the professors. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Lozano was surprised by the amount of praise he received from his colleagues.

Dr. Lozano is a member of the American Medical Association, the International Society of Nephrology, the Texas Medical Association, the Harris County Medical Society and the Jefferson County Medical Society. A fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Nephrology, he was affiliated with the Physicians for a National Health Plan. A presenter in the field, Dr. Lozano was associated with the Kidney Health Care Advisory Committee from 1981 to 1982.

During his career, Dr. Lozano has contributed to numerous articles and editorials to various publishers. Consumer Reports recognized him among their Best Doctors and Top Doctors. Dr. Lozano's hobbies and interests include reading biographical studies, literature, history of art, and Nobel Prize winners.
