Now retired, Dr. Nolting has enjoyed a wonderful career in academia that spanned more than 30 years. Concluding his career in 2000 after fourteen years as the director of counseling and student support services in the college of continuing education. He also served on several college and university committees during this period.
Dr. Nolting previously worked at Kansas State University, accumulating more than 10 years as both an associate professor of education and dean of students. A well-respected faculty member, Dr. Nolting was very involved with student government and various other aspects of the university. Additionally, he held administrative appointments at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. Moreover, Dr. Nolting was affiliated with Alberg and Associates, a mental health care facility in Shoreview, MN, as a consultant psychologist between 1989 and 2005.
Dr. Nolting further flourished with North Star Counseling and Mediation Services between 2006 and 2008. Locally, he served on the executive board of the Adult Learner Services Network in Saint Paul, MN, from 1989 to 1990. Throughout his tenure, Dr. Nolting has contributed to numerous articles published in scholarly journals in his area of expertise.
Taking an interest in the field of counseling during the summer between his freshman and sophomore years in college, Dr. Nolting pursued an education at Indiana University, earning a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1959 and a Master of Science in education in 1961. He later graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1967. Dr. Nolting is licensed as a psychologist in the state of Minnesota.
During his illustrious career, Dr. Nolting was an active member of the American Psychological Association and the Minnesota Psychological Association. He remains involved with the University of Minnesota Retirees Association. Dr. Nolting served in the military as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army between 1961 and 1962.
Presented with a University of Minnesota Retirees Association Award in 2013 and 2014, Dr. Nolting formerly attained an Academic Staff Award from the aforementioned university in 1994. He also received a Presidential Award from the American College of Personnel in 1982. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Nolting has been included in multiple 15 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
