Frederick Russel Demler, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

While at MF Global, Fred was also the Global Head of Commodities. As the Global Head of Metals, Dr. Demler manages professional staff globally, in the Americas, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Prior to the Man engagements, he worked as a Mineral Economist and 1st VP/Americas Metals Co-Head for Paine Webber Inc. in New York City (1990 to 1993) and was the Head of Commodities Research for Drexel Burnham Lambert also in New York City (1983 to 1990).

Earlier in his career, he found success as an Instructor and Student Advisor of Mineral Economics at The Pennsylvania State University (1979 to 1980) and later joined Exxon Minerals Company as a Senior Analyst in Corporate Planning between (1980 to 1983). While in academia, Fred did post-graduate research for the National Science Foundation, the United States Bureau of Mines, Resources for the Future, and the PSU College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (1976 to 1980).

Other professional endeavors of Dr. Demler include serving as an Executive Board Member of the Copper Club and the American Copper Council and participating on advisory committees for the London Metal Exchange and the New York Commodity Exchange (COMEX). He's provided hedge advisory consulting services and market intelligence to physical hedge corporates, financial enterprises, and institutional traders through Demler Hedge Advisory LLC and as an Associate with The Metals Risk Management Team (TMRT).

Fred is an expert in the economics of the industrial metals markets, material substitution, and the secondary metals industries, the Chinese commodities trade, and the role of funds in metals pricing. He specializes in the derivatives markets in the US, Europe, and Asia; both in the trading, execution, and the clearing of commodities derivatives and in the hedging of physical commodities price-risks and hedge administration and control. He has written numerous articles and contributed to trade publications, presented and participated in panel discussions internationally on commodities, forecasting, futures exchanges, and hedging, leads price-risk management workshops, and speaks professionally at international metals and derivatives industry conferences. Additionally, Dr. Demler has lectured at Cornell, Virginia Tech, The Stevens Institute of Technology, The Citadel, NYU, Rutgers, Shanghai University, the COMEX, the LME, and the Group of 30.

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Demler earned a Bachelor of Science in Mineral Economics in 1976 and a Doctor of Philosophy in Mineral Economics in 1980. Fred was also a Penn State football letterman (1974). Additionally, he has been recognized as a finalist in Platts/S&P lifetime achievement award (2017), he is a Category 7 (Honorary Member) of the London Metal Exchange (2017) and is a Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences "Fellow".
