Rita "Em" Emery Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Rita Emery has been named Volunteer of the Year by the American Heart Association, Teacher of the Year from Ulatis Elementary School, and "Coach of the Year" by Oregon State University.

Supported by an impressive educational background and professional experience, Ms. Emery excelled as physical education educator for more than four decades. At the start of her success, she served as an instructor of physical education and a coach at Churchill County High School in Fallon, Nevada, from 1963 to 1965. Subsequently, she was hired by Lower Lake High School as an instructor of physical education, further progressing to a coach and chairperson for the department of physical education, between 1967 and 1976. After briefly contributing as the coach of the women's volleyball team at Contra Costa College in San Pablo for a season, Ms. Emery joined Oregon State University as the women's softball team coach from 1977 to 1980.

As she advanced through her career, Ms. Emery taught physical education at a number of institutions including St. Leonard School in Fremont, Campbell Unified School District, and the Vacaville Unified School District, between 1985-1995. She became the director of junior programming for the Club Sport of Pleasanton for a year, later teaching at Vallejo City Unified School District, as a physical education instructor from 2000-2007. Then returned to the Vacaville School District working as a teacher and mentor for their after school program. Today, happily retired, she contributes to the Suisun Wildlife Center, as an educational trainer to the Opossums, the Senior Coalition Center, is a Matter of Balance instructor for seniors, and is an emerging writer, having her poetry published in MELANGE: Musing On Life From A Writers Pen (0-9897968-6-8 print). Presently has also completed her first children's storybook, which is in the process of being published early 202 chronicling a Woodpeckers survival from a wildfire with illustrations.

Prior to start of her career, Ms. Emery earned an Associate of Arts at Contra Costa College in 1960. Three years later, she secured a Bachelor of Arts from Chico State College. Ms. Emery concluded her academic efforts with a Master of Arts from Washington State University in 1977.

For her accomplishments in the field, Ms. Emery has been named "Volunteer of the Year" by the American Heart Association, "Teacher of the Year" from Ulatis Elementary School, and "Coach of the Year" by Oregon State University, among others. Likewise, she has been featured in editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the West, and Who's Who of American Women. Outside of work, Ms. Emery enjoys such diversions as bicycling, walking, cacti gardening, and traveling.
