Dr. Vanhaecke is an industrial pharmacist with more than 30 years of innovation in his field. He developed an interest in medicine, particularly drug treatments, as a teen, and attended Ghent University in Belgium, where he earned degrees in pharmacy in 1983 and was accredited as an industrial pharmacist in 1985. Dr. Vanhaecke completed a Doctor of Philosophy in pharmaceutical sciences at Ghent University in 1989, intending to enter academia or research, but quickly realized that his talent for organizational leadership made him a better fit for the private sector.
From 1983 until 1989, Dr. Vanhaecke garnered a laudable reputation as a research assistant and lecturer at Ghent University. He became a quality assurance manager for Alcon-Couvreur in Puurs, Belgium, in 1990, rising to become a quality and regulatory affairs manager for North Europe from 1999 to 2000. In 2001, Dr. Vanhaecke joined Alcon Pharmaceuticals of Fort Worth as group director of quality assurance until 2002, and as the vice president of corporate quality assurance from 2002 until 2012. He flourished as the executive vice president of Alcon's Novartis parent company from 2012 to 2018, and excelled as a strategic quality advisor for Novartis from 2018 to 2019.
Dr. Vanhaecke is most proud of his work in building quality and brand reputation in a short time as global head of Novartis Quality. He is the recipient of the 2015 Novartis Excellence Award, and has contributed numerous articles to professional publications. Dr. Vanhaecke has had the privilege to serve as an invited lecturer in schools across the United States and Belgium. He is a member of the Parenteral Drug Association.
