Ms. deNobriga's theatre career spans more than four decades. She was initially attracted to community theater because it was an artistic outlet for building a community and civic pride by working together with likeminded people. Her mother and father, a retired Marine Corps colonel, were both civic-minded and completed a lot of volunteer work, not only in the church but also in the area of historic preservation. Their interests and commitments greatly influenced her career choice.
Ms. deNobriga earned a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University. She has received several prestigious awards and fellowships as well, including a Rockefeller Foundation Next Generation Leadership fellowship and recognition as the Rotary Club Women of the Year in Sanford, NC. Ms. deNobriga is further associated with the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
Active as a consultant in private practice since 1997, Ms. deNobriga previously garnered expertise by working as the executive director of Alternate ROOTS from 1988 to 1997. She became affiliated with Alternate ROOTS when she was a member of the Road Company. The highlight of Ms. deNobriga's career was that she was instrumental in helping to launch a network of artists who had come together because of a desire to connect with other politically and socially engaged cultural workers. For a decade, she was able to keep the doors open despite operating through lean times.
Ms. deNobriga is also proud of her position as the artistic managing director of the Temple Theater in North Carolina because she helped to open and reclaim the historic theater in 1984. She served as the director at the Temple Theater for four years. Ms.deNobriga enjoyed directing community theater because she viewed it as an opportunity for people who would normally not meet one another within their usual social and business circles to come together and create something that others would enjoy.
Prior to her position at the Temple Theater, Ms.deNobriga found success as a theatre specialist at Lee County Parks & Recreation from 1979 to 1984 and as a treasurer at the Road Company from 1976 to 1979. She found success as an artist-in-residence at Johnston County Technical College from 1974 to 1976. Ms. deNobriga began her prolific career by working as a performer and stage manager at the Winston-Salem Arts Council from 1972 to 1975.
