Dr. Stein is a cardiologist and pharmaceutical executive with more than 35 years of innovation in his field. He attended Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, graduating Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1980, and earned his Doctor of Medicine at the University of Illinois in 1984. Dr. Stein is likewise a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and internal medicine.

Between 1984 and 1987, Dr. Stein completed an internship and residency in medicine at the University of Illinois. He distinguished himself as a fellow in cardiology and interventional cardiology at the University of Iowa from 1987 until 1991. He subsequently became an assistant professor at Emory University in 1991, where he remained through 1995. Dr. Stein further maintained activity as the director of cardiology for the Lower Florida Keys Health Systems from 1997 to 1998, and returned to the University of Wisconsin as a clinical assistant professor from 1998 until 2005.

Dr. Stein garnered a laudable reputation as an associate director of AstraZeneca between 2005 and 2007, and a senior director of Daiichi Sankyo Pharmaceuticals from 2007 to 2009. He became the senior director of Novo Nordisk from 2009 until 2011, and Ikaria Biopharmaceuticals between 2011 and 2013 before assuming the role of the executive director of Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals in 2013. Since 2016, Dr. Stein has excelled as the vice president and head of the medical experts and medical standards divisions of Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals.

Among other accolades, Dr. Stein is the recipient of a Clinical Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Health. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association, for which he is a member of the clinical cardiology council. Dr. Stein enjoys hiking, adventure travel and photography.
