Prior to this role, he worked as a partner of Reed Smith Shaw & McClay LLP from 2000 to 2003 and as a shareholder for Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir PC from 1993 to 1999. Earlier in his career, Mr. Ummer found success through his work with Hirtle, Callaghan & Co., Buchanan Ingersoll PC and the Pittsburgh National Bank, now known as PNC Financial Services Inc.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Mr. Ummer has also served as Counsel and shareholder for Golf Course Consultants, Inc. which has built various golf courses throughout the world. In an effort to remain aware of developments in his field, he has maintained his affiliation with multiple professional organizations. A fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, Mr. Ummer is a member of the Allegheny Tax Society and the Estate Planning Council of Pittsburgh, where he held the post of president from 1986 to 1987.
Furthermore, Mr. Ummer has been incredibly active in his community as well. A trustee emeritus of Thiel College in Greenville, PA, he has maintained his involvement as a trustee of the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh since 1984. He has also held positions on the board of visitors for the Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC, and the planned giving board for Pennsylvania State University in University Park. Notably, Mr. Ummer is a founder of the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council.
Prior to embarking on his professional path, Mr. Ummer pursued an education at Thiel College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. Following this accomplishment, he continued his studies and obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Duke University in Durham, NC, in 1972. Later that same year, Mr. Ummer was licensed to practice law by the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Having achieved much over the years, Mr. Ummer has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades. Recognized among Best Lawyers in America since 1987, he currently holds a AV-Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell. In 2007, he was presented with an honorary Doctor of Philosophy from Thiel College for ongoing excellence in his career.
