ALEXANDRIA, VA, December 13, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jeanne Plitt with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Plitt celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired, Ms. Plitt excelled as an educator and a librarian for more than 40 years. While still a student during World War II, she was employed as a clerk in the Special Services Division of the United States State Department. Soon thereafter, she taught as a secondary education teacher for various schools throughout Virginia and Maryland between 1953 and 1961. Furthermore, Ms. Plitt joined Alexandria Library in Virginia as a reference librarian in 1967, further progressing to an assistant director in 1968. Moreover, she served in the role of the director of the aforementioned library until her retirement in 1992.

The highlight of Ms. Plitt's career was being ordered to court in 1990 due to a public display regarding abortion rights. The city of Alexandria had been sued and the Rutledge Institute sided with a man who lived in Alexandria and took legal action because of his pro-life stance. The man protested that the library took both points of view and disagreed with their right to do so. Consequently, the city of Alexandria won the dispute and the institute settled with the city.

In addition to her primary endeavors, Ms. Plitt contributed as the chairperson of the Librarian Technical Committee Council of Governments intermittently between 1971 and 1972, and again from 1980 and 1981. Civically, she remains active with the Alexandria Commission on Persons with Disabilities, the Little Theatre Group in Alexandria, and the Northern Virginia Library Networking Committee. A member of the American Library Association, she maintains her affiliation with the National Trust, Manuscript Society, and the Alexandria Library Company. For her accomplishments in the field, Ms. Plitt has been the recipient of a Recognition Award from the American Association of Retired Persons in 1990 and the Alexandria Public Service Award in 1964 and 1974, respectively.

She attended St. Lawrence University from 1945 to 1947. She graduated from the University of Maryland in 1949 with a B.A. degree and a Professional Teaching Certificate in 1949. She further attended American University from 1958 to 1959, earning a Master of Library Science from the Catholic University of America in 1968. Additionally, Ms. Pitt holds a professional library license in the state of Virginia and teaching certifications in Maryland as well as Virginia.

Jeanne Given Plitt was born on August 27, 1927 in Whitehall, NY, the elder daughter of Charles R. and Anna N. Given. She was married to Ferdinand Charles Plitt, Jr. on January 19, 1952. They were married for 49 years until Ferdinand's death in 2001. They have two children: Christine Marie Smith and Charles Randolph, four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Ms. Plitt has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
