Seeking a vocation that would be both interesting and fulfilling, Mr. Wolbrink began his professional journey as a technical writer and editor for the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory in Livermore, California, in 1966, remaining in this role for one year before serving as an editor and the head of engineering publications at the Engineering Research Institute at Iowa State University (ISU) in Ames from 1967 to 1970.
