Ms. Pauline C. Barbin is the recipient of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists' Helen Lamb Outstanding Educator Award.

Ms. Barbin is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and academic director with more than 50 years of experience in her field. She was initially inspired by an experience she had as a teenager, whereupon she administered anesthetic to a rabbit during a school vivisection exercise, which sparked a lifelong passion for the compassionate and accurate use of anesthesia. Ms. Barbin earned a diploma from Saint Louis Hospital in 1954 and a certificate from Carney Hospital in 1956. She continued her education at Thomas College, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in 1980. In 1983, Ms. Barbin completed her Master of Education at the University of Maine.

Ms. Barbin is the first woman to become the chief nurse anesthetist of the Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. She subsequently rose to become the director of the surgery complex, as well as the director of the school of anesthesiology at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Ms. Barbin was particularly influential in the development of the medical center's school of anesthesia, the first in Maine.

Among other accolades, Ms. Barbin is the recipient of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists' Helen Lamb Outstanding Educator Award. In order to remain aware of developments in the field, she is a member and the former president of the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, for which she sits on the council of accreditation. In her leisure time, Ms. Barbin enjoys gardening and handicrafts.
