He received a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Florida before obtaining a Master of Science in accounting from the University of Florida in 1986. Prior to his current role at HBK CPAs and Consultants, Mr. Kohner excelled as a managing director and co-founder of Andersen Tax from 2002 to 2018, where he was both in charge of Business Entities taxation for the firm and the Florida Practice. He also worked as a tax partner at Arthur Andersen from 1993 to 2002, for which he was active as the firm's expert on the tax ramifications related to corporate aircraft and use of yachts. Additionally, Mr. Kohner flourished as a tax manager at Price Waterhouse from 1986 to 1992.
Notably, Mr. Kohner has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for excellence in his career, as well as service to his local community. In 2019, he was the recipient of the Nonprofit Volunteer of the Year Award from Nonprofits First. He was further recognized for Excellence in Tax Law in 2016 and 2017, among Business Leader Magazine's Top 50 Entrepreneurs in 2012 and with the Key Partner Award from the South Florida Business Journal in 2009. Additionally, Mr. Kohner was celebrated as a Distinguished Alumni Honoree by the Palm Beach County School System.
Mr. Kohner is affiliated with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The co-founder and past president of Philanthropy Tank (a program that fuels and inspires the next generation of youth change leaders that challenges, empowers, and equips them to develop and execute sustainable initiatives and solutions to community problems), he has maintained his involvement through administrative positions with such numerous organizations as Advisors for Philanthropic Impact, the University of Florida Fisher School of Accounting, the University of Florida Foundation, the Palm Beach Economics Council, Florida Tax Watch and the Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County. He previously prospered as the chairman of the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County and the Estate Planning Council of Palm Beach County.
