An esteemed attorney of more than 38 years, Mr. Stenmoe has been representing clients at Briggs and Morgan for his entire career. After clerking for a federal court judge in St. Paul, Minnesota after law school, he was hired by the Minneapolis law firm, where he became a shareholder in 1983. Mr. Stenmoe also served as the firm's President/Managing Partner, Vice President, Treasurer, Board member, Executive Committee member, and chair of the Business Litigation Department. Briggs and Morgan is a full-service law firm that has been a trusted name in business law and litigation services for over 135 years.
A seasoned trial lawyer and legal strategist, Mr. Stenmoe focuses his practice on business litigation, employment law counseling, and employment law litigation. He has litigated and tried cases in state and federal courts throughout the United States: has argued cases before Minnesota state and federal courts, courts of appeals and district courts in multiple states; and has represented employers in cases appealed to the Supreme Court of the United States. Mr. Stenmoe also has represented numerous high-profile clients and major corporations.
A frequent lecturer and author, Mr. Stenmoe is known for his informative and entertaining presentations.
A member of the Board of Trustees for the Walker Art Center since 2013, Mr. Stenmoe also has served as a member of the Print and Drawing Council at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts and as a Board member of Twin Cities Diversity in Practice. Enjoying the opportunity to serve his community, he is also a former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of William Mitchell College of Law and former co-chair of the Collector's Council at the Walker Art Center.
Mr. Stenmoe attended the University of Minnesota where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1977. He then acquired a Doctor of Jurisprudence at William Mitchell College of Law, now the Mitchell Hamline School of Law, in 1981. Returning to the University of Minnesota years later, he received a Master of Business Administration, in 1992. While in law school, Mr. Stenmoe served as Editor-in-Chief of the William Mitchell Law Review. He has been admitted to practice by the Minnesota State Bar, the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 6th, 8th, and 11th Circuits, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota.
In 2014, Mr. Stenmoe was inducted as a fellow in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers.
The recipient of the Hachey (outstanding alumni) Award by the William Mitchell College of Law in 2012, Mr. Stenmoe also has been recognized by several legal publications, including Chambers USA for Labor and Employment Law, as a Top 40 Employment Law Attorney by Minnesota Super Lawyers, as one of the top 100 Attorneys in Minnesota, and Best Lawyers in America. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Stenmoe has been included in the ninth and 10th editions of Who's Who in American Law.
