Nancy Madrid has been a renowned school and clinical mental health professional for more than twenty years. Much of her work during these years has been in the Central New Mexico communities. She also has worked as a school and mental health professional in rural Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas communities for over 10 years. Ms. Madrid is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. She was raised, primarily in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Hugo, Oklahoma. As she was growing up, Nancy observed severe unmet needs in many of her fellow classmates. Those observations have motivated her, through the years, to develop her mental health expertise and experience. She has used that professional knowledge and those skills assisting individuals and families in similar circumstances as her childhood classmates.
Ms. Madrid's achievements and accolades are numerous. She received her High School Diploma from Hugo High School in Hugo, Oklahoma in 1979. She received an Associate of Science degree from Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas in 1981. Shortly thereafter, she completed both a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master's degree in Behavioral Studies in Counseling Psychology from Southeastern Oklahoma State University, by 1984. Ms. Madrid is now a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, School Counselor, and School Diagnostician in the state of New Mexico. In addition, she holds a Licensed Professional Counselor's license in the state of Texas.
Other noteworthy professional accomplishments in Ms. Madrid's career include memberships as Alumni at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, a member of the American Association of Hypnotherapists, Phi Theta Kappa, the American Counseling Association, and the New Mexico Counseling Association. She has certifications as a Clinical Counselor Supervisor, in SASSI, and in Business and Management Education. Albuquerque Public Schools recently bestowed on her the "Key to Student Success Award."
Ms. Madrid provides clinical counseling services to children, adolescents and families in private practice, through a community contract with Albuquerque Public Schools. In addition, she offers her clinical expertise and experience on a pro bono basis in the Albuquerque community. She continues to advocate for, and serve low income, rural children in New Mexico. In her free time, Ms. Madrid enjoys following the Dallas Cowboys and powwows held in New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Ms. Madrid is an obvious credit to her Native American heritage. Her many successes are a tribute to the women's movement in this country. Her undaunted advocacy and compassion for less privileged children are a testament to the strength of the human heart.
