Mr. Fishman is the president and chief executive officer of Lakeway Publishers, Inc., which owns and operates community newspapers and magazines in Tennessee, Missouri, Virginia and Florida and is headquartered in Morristown, Tennessee. Incorporated in 1966, the publishing company includes community-specific papers that deliver targeted news, lifestyle, local sports and entertainment information that aims to reach people of all ages. Lakeway Publishers notably publishes 25 newspapers, five magazines and four shoppers; operates three printing plants and a computer service company; and offers over 40 websites that provide digital data over the internet formatted for desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Since 1966, Mr. Fishman has also been the publisher and editor of Citizen Tribune in Morristown, a daily newspaper created to serve the eight-county Lakeway region, providing news coverage on a wider basis and helping the paper's advertisers reach a wider audience.

Prior to entering the publishing world, Mr. Fishman was the executive director of the Middle Tennessee Industrial Development Association; manager of the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce in Morristown, Tennessee, and the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce in Jesup, Georgia; and director of the Camden High School Band in Camden, Tennessee. His involvement in the community was what ultimately led to his decision to pursue a career in journalism at a time when good community journalism was in demand. Mr. Fishman also served as director of SunTrust Banks, Inc. in Morristown and Knoxville and was president of Tennessee Press Service in Knoxville, Tennessee.

As a community leader, Mr. Fishman was actively involved with numerous professional organizations. Most notably, he served as chairman of the Morristown Industrial Development Committee for over 50 years. In this capacity, he assisted in building an economic and diversified industrial base for people to receive job opportunities and enjoy a good living. Among other roles, Mr. Fishman lent his expertise to academia by serving on the Tennessee Board of Regents in Nashville and chairing the financial committee. He was also on the board of directors for the Associated Press, an advisory board member of the Hamblen County Juvenile Court in Morristown and chairman of the Areawide Development Corporation in Knoxville. Additionally, Mr. Fishman served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. National Guard between 1955 and 1966.

Mr. Fishman graduated from the University of Memphis with a bachelor's degree in 1955. He later completed graduate coursework at the Southeastern Institute for Organization Management in 1958 and the Academy of Organization and Management at the University of North Carolina in 1961, followed by further graduate level coursework at the Graduate Industrial Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma in 1964.

Active in many professional societies, Mr. Fishman served as president of the Tennessee Press Association, where he received a President's Award in 1980. He also served as president of the Tennessee Association of the Associated Press, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce Executives, the East Tennessee Industrial Council and Kiwanis International, where he is a life member and George F. Hixon Award recipient. Other memberships include the National Newspaper Association, the National Newspaper Association Foundation, the Knoxville Area Newspaper Network and the News Media Alliance.

As a testament to his success and longevity, Mr. Fishman has been recognized with multiple awards, including a 1999 Tennessee Sequoyah Literature Award, a 1985 Journalism Alumni Citation from the University of Memphis and a 1982 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Tennessee Industrial Development Council. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in the 17th edition of Who's Who in the World and the 25th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest.
