MOORHEAD, MN, December 23, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Bruce Henry Emmel, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Emmel celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Accumulating more than 30 years of professional expertise as a teacher, Dr. Emmel retired in 2000 from Moorhead Public Schools after 16 years on campus. Teaching in Minnesota throughout the length of his career, he was first hired at Lincoln Junior High School, in Hibbing, in 1967. He was subsequently hired at West Concord High School, where he taught for two years, and Moorhead Technical College, where taught between 1972 and 1990. Three years after retiring from the public school district, Dr. Emmel became an adjunct professor at Minnesota State University, where he remains today.

A leading authority in his field, Dr. Emmel was a member of the District Mathematics Committee in Moorhead for 22 years, beginning in 1978. He was equally active in his community for more than 35 years, beginning in 1984 as a commander of the Fargo Civil Air Patrol in North Dakota. He later served as the director of public affairs and director of safety of the North Dakota Civil Air Patrol in Mandan, North Dakota, and held various other roles with the Moorhead Municipal Airport Fly-In and the Young Eagles Program. During the early 1960s, Dr. Emmel also served his country in the U.S. Army.

Born in St. Cloud, Dr. Emmel drew abundant inspiration from his father, who served as the younger man's teacher and athletic coach for three years in a row in high school. Deciding to follow in his father's footsteps, he received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics education at St. Cloud State College in 1967, followed by a Master of Arts in education at Ball State University in 1973. Returning to college many years later, he attended the University of North Dakota where he completed a Doctor of Philosophy in 2002 at the age of 60. Dr. Emmel is a certified vocational teacher in the state of Minnesota and holds a lifetime teaching certificate for grades seven through 12 in the state of Minnesota.

Recognized for developing an individualized program to teach developmental mathematics to technical and community college students, Dr. Emmel's efforts allowed students to work at their own pace so that they did not have to finish at the end of the quarter. The students were not graded based on the level, but instead on how many packets they had completed. If all lessons were completed during the quarter, they would then receive an A grade for the class. Dr. Emmel also developed a stair-step method for changing units within the metric system. In 1980, he was honored by presenting a paper on individualized teaching of developmental mathematics at a national conference at City University of New York.

Dr. Emmel is a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Education Minnesota Retired, National Education Association, and AARP. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Emmel has been featured in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the Midwest. Adjacent to his career, Dr. Emmel enjoys such avocations as flying, building aircraft, hunting, and musicianship.
