BRIDGEVILLE, PA, December 23, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jean Betschart Roemer with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Betschart Roemer celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Betschart Roemer led a prolific career as a staff nurse, diabetes educator, pediatric nurse practitioner and writer. She worked solely at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh for 37 years with 7 years off to pursue graduate work and raise her three children. Initially, her responsibilities included working in Pediatric ICU and Recovery Room. After receiving a master's degree in the Nursing Care of Children, as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, she moved into a role as diabetes educator, which was a fairly new role in the U.S. at that time and became a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Because of the prominence and the Children's Hospital's reputation in the treatment of childhood diabetes, she was exposed to and participated in diabetes research and education from a national perspective. These experiences led her to a variety of volunteer positions outside of her actual job, such as the Presidency of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, Adjunct Faculty at University of Pittsburgh Parent-Child Nursing Graduate Program, involvement in other professional organizations, and opportunities to write.

As a person with type 1 diabetes, she has lived with the disease since the age of 19 and has a passion for helping, teaching, and supporting children, parents, and health care professionals in learning about diabetes. She has published 28 articles for professionals, and approximately 40 books, CD's and other media for use by diabetes educators, healthcare professionals, parents, teens, children and teachers. She has interest in education and philanthropy and works with agencies and mission groups to foster improvement in diabetes care and education in underserved populations. For years she has helped to collect, recruit and purchase diabetes supplies and learning materials for Malawi, Africa and occasional other urgent global diabetes needs.

Highlights of her career include publication of a foundational book for children It's Time to Learn about Diabetes, In Control: Guide for Teens with Diabetes, and Raising a Child with Diabetes (American Diabetes Association). She continues to maintain her CDE, and CRNP in Pennsylvania. She is the recipient of many awards including the University of Pittsburgh Physicians Services Award for Excellence in Community Service, American Diabetes Association -Outstanding Health Professional Educator Award, Sigma Theta Tau (nursing honorary) Award for Public Education Computer Based Technology, Allene Van Son Award for best Technological Educational Tool for diabetes, and Distinguished Alumnae award from Mt. Lebanon High School.

In 1996, she received a Master's of Science and obtained her Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner degree and certification. She continued to work as a pediatric nurse practitioner and diabetes educator in the division of Endocrinology and Diabetes until her retirement in 2015. She has stayed active in the diabetes community, writing, speaking, and to her joy, she hears from many of her past patients who "check in."
