Dr. Lawrence Green Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Public Health

Dr. Green has been designated as professor emeritus at the University of California San Francisco



Dr. Lawrence Green is especially proud of his two years as a project associate with the Ford Foundation in Bangladesh.

    SAN FRANCISCO, CA, December 24, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Lawrence Green has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing upon many years of practiced experience in public health, Dr. Green accepted the designation of a professor emeritus at the University of California San Francisco, where he had worked extensively as a professor in the department of epidemiology and Biostatistics. Previously, he served as the director of the U.S. Office of Global Tobacco Control and the Office of Science & Extramural Research for the CDC between 1999 and 2004, and as both the professor and the director of the Institute of Health Promotion Research at the University of British Columbia during the 1990s. Earlier in his career, Dr. Green gained valuable executive expertise as the vice president of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, a professor and the director of the Center for Health Promotion Research at the University of Texas Health Science Center and the director of the U.S. Office of Health Information and Health Promotion.

Educationally, Dr. Green has also parlayed his extensive knowledge to students at numerous institutions, including Harvard University's Center for Health Policy, the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, the University of California School of Public Health, and the University of Limburg School of Health Science in the Netherlands. Over the years, he has consulted for a variety of organizations as well, including UNICEF, the National Institutes of Health, the UN Fund for Population Activities, and the World Health Organization. Even though his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of his two years as a project associate with the Ford Foundation in Bangladesh. Between 1963 and 1965, Dr. Green flourisher in the field of family planning, which piqued his interest in population health and set the course for his career.

Before embarking upon his professional path, Dr. Green earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of California Berkeley. He subsequently concluded his academic efforts at the aforementioned university with a Master of Public Health in 1966 and a Doctor of Public Health in 1968. In 2005, Dr. Green received an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Waterloo in Canada.

Dr. Green retains his professional alignment with the American Academy of Health Behavior, the Society for Public Health Education, the American Public Health Association, and the American Academy of Physical Education, among others. Devoted to his community, he has also contributed to the James and Sarah Fries Foundation as the chairman of the board of directors and prize jury since 2017. With considerable knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Green has authored a number of publications such as "Dhaka Family Planning Experiment," "Health Education Planning," "Measurement and Evaluation," "Drug Abuse Prevention" and "Community and Population Health."

In light of his outstanding work, Dr. Green was presented with the Doyen Jacques Parisot Medal from the International Union for Health Promotion and Education, the Beryl Roberts Award in 1973, a Distinguished Service Citation from the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health in 1981, election to the National Academy of Medicine, and a Commendation from the National Center for Health Education in the mid-1980s. More recently, he was honored with the Alumnus of the Year Award from the School of Public Health at the University of California Berkeley and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Academy of Health Behavior. Professional publications such as Who's Who in America, Who's Who Among Human Service Professionals, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare have also recognized him for his professional efforts. Looking toward the future, Dr. Green intends to remain active in his role as professor emeritus.
