Today, he continues parlaying his knowledge of the field to others in a limited capacity as a consultant. Over the years, he also served as a Fulbright professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and as a Visiting Stocker Professor at Ohio University. Additionally, Dr. Shepherd is a fellow of the IEEE and a fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers.

In 1955, Dr. Shepherd initially earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from the University of London. Following this accomplishment, he obtained a Master of Science from the University of Toronto in 1958, a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of London in 1966 and a Doctor of Science in engineering from the University of London in 1975. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Shepherd has authored a number of books, including "Power Electronics and Motor Control," and co-authored "Energy Studies" as well as six other books on engineering, two of which he co-authored with his son Dr. David Shepherd.

Due to his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Shepherd was presented with research grants from the Science and Engineering Research Council in the United Kingdom between 1965 and 1994.
