Dr. Koike is renowned as a professor at the University of Fukui and a distinguished researcher specializing in nuclear engineering and safety concerns. He initially pursued an education at Kyoto University, where he earned a Bachelor of Engineering in 1972 and a Master of Engineering in 1974. Dr. Koike graduated with a Doctor of Engineering from Kyoto University in 1978, during which time he penned a thesis about vacancy-solute interactions in dilute aluminum alloys.

From 1977 to 1983, Dr. Koike began his career as a researcher at the Power Reactor and Nuclear Fuel Development Corporation in Oarai, Japan. He later found success with the aforementioned corporation as an assistant senior researcher in 1983, a senior staff member in 1989 and the general manager from 1992 to 1998. Dr. Koike subsequently worked for the Japan Nuclear Development Institute as a senior engineer and the head of the office safety promotion project between 1998 and 2005.

Dr. Koike additionally contributed as the head of office safety administration for the Japan Atomic Energy Agency from 2005 to 2008. Since 2008, he has excelled as a professor at the University of Fukui. In addition to teaching, Dr. Koike was responsible for developing the school's curriculum and establishing their Nuclear Power and Energy Safety program.

The author of more than a dozen articles for professional journals, Dr. Koike has presented several white papers at international conferences on nuclear energy production safety. His bibliography includes "Fundamental Mechanisms of Radiation-Induced Creep and Growth" in 1987 and the "Zirconium Alloy Handbook" in 1997, published by the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers. Among many other accolades, he is the recipient of the Science-Technology & Safety-System Prize from the Atomic Energy Society of Japan in 1997. Likewise, Dr. Koike is a member of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Atomic Energy Society of Japan.
