Dr. Leblang is a database marketing pioneer with more than 45 years of experience in recognizing consumer trends. Initially intending to pursue a career in research chemistry, he attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1949, and continued his academic efforts at New York University. Dr. Leblang completed a Master of Business Administration at New York University in 1957, and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in 1962. Pivoting away from research chemistry, Mr. Leblang discovered a gift for science-based marketing after joining an advertising agency in 1948.

From 1950 until 1965, Dr. Leblang was an advertising manager for Gimbel Brothers in New York City. He further excelled as the advertising director for Abercrombie and Fitch from 1963 to 1964, and joined G. Fox in 1965 as the vice president and sales promotion director. Dr. Leblang remained with G. Fox until 1975, when he advanced to become the senior vice president and director of marketing for Saks Fifth Avenue, a position he held through 1990. Between 1991 and 1996, Dr. Leblang was a marketing consultant in individual practice.

In addition to his work in marketing, Dr. Leblang served as an adjunct professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology from 1957 until 1961, and has been an invited speaker in his field in the United States, Europe and Asia. He is the former vice president of the Retail Advertising Conference and maintained activity on the board of the Direct Marketing Association between 1981 and 1990. Among other accolades, Dr. Leblang is the recipient of a Silver Medal from the National Retail Merchants Association, and the 1993 Edward Mayer Jr. Award from the Direct Marketing Association.
