LIVERMORE, CA, January 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jeffrey Colvin, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Colvin celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Colvin is renowned as a physicist with expertise in energy policy and a career spanning more than 45 years. Inspired by his father, an electronics engineer, he had no doubts that he would grow up to pursue a career in science. He initially pursued an education at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. He continued his studies at the University of New Mexico, obtaining a Master of Science in physics in 1968. Dr. Colvin eventually graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1974 at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

From 1974 to 1975, Dr. Colvin began his career as a research associate at the University of Rochester. He subsequently found success with EG&G in Los Alamos, NM, as a senior scientist from 1975 to 1977, a section head from 1977 to 1980 and the manager of the physics department from 1980 to 1983. He additionally worked as a staff physicist at Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1983 to 1994 and a science advisor to the United States Department of Energy in Washington, D.C., from 1990 to 1992. From 1994 to 2018, he excelled as a staff physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, with which he has remained active as a visiting scientist since 2018.

The author or co-author of more than 100 published, peer-reviewed scientific articles, Dr. Colvin's research focuses on inertial fusion and high energy density physics, including general research interests and contributions in hydrodynamics and turbulence, laser-matter interaction physics, inertial fusion target design, laser experiment target design, properties of materials under dynamic shock loading, computational design of materials science experiments on lasers, laser-driven x-ray sources, non-equilibrium atomic physics, and plasma astrophysics. He is the co-author of the textbook "Extreme Physics," a standard work for graduate-level university classes in high energy density physics. He hopes to continue his research with a focus on teaching and mentoring, as he feels it is time to train and prepare the next generation of physicists.

Accordingly, in addition to mentoring young scientists at his lab, he has been a Guest Lecturer for a graduate-level course at University of California San Diego and is preparing to be a Guest Lecturer at University of California Merced. Moreover, Dr. Colvin is a member of the American Physical Society, the American Astronomical Society, and the Minerals, Metals, and Materials Society.
