With more than 50 years of experience to her credit, Karen Ina Margulies Green has excelled as a professor of literature at the University of the District of Columbia since 1991. Additionally, she has operated as a clinical psychologist in her private practice located in Washington, D.C., since 1972. Ms. Green began her career as a psychotherapist in her firm, Green and Associates, in 1968, a capacity from which she retired in 2019.

Previously, Ms. Green worked as a psychology consultant for Associated Health Practitioners from 1987 to 1990 and Behavioral Factors, Inc. between 1986 and 1989. Prior to these appointments, she held the position of a consulting psychologist for Hood College in 1985, New Ventures, Inc. in 1984, and Providence Hospital from 1981 until 1982. Previously, Ms. Green served as an English teacher at the Maryland School of Art & Design in 1980.

Before embarking on her professional path, Ms. Green pursued an education at Duke University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, with distinction, in 1959. She continued her academic efforts at Boston University with a Master of Arts in 1960 and postgraduate coursework from 1960 to 1963. She concluded her studies at American University in 1973, graduating with a Master of Arts in literature. In addition to these accomplishments, Ms. Green has been licensed as a psychologist in the District of Columbia.

Inspired by her mother, a philosopher and a feminist, Ms. Green was motivated to fight for the same cause and take her mother's guidance to heart. Encountering much conflict and difficulty in her youth following her parents' divorce and her mother's remarriage to a native of France, she prides herself on having learned French, studied the cultural differences between America and France, and her service to the World Bank. Ms. Green also fondly recalls having her literature reviewed in the New York Times as well as attending a seminar in Boston with Fritz Perls.

Beyond her responsibilities within the field, Ms. Green has participated in numerous endeavors outside of her professional circles. From 1967 until 1968, she contributed to the District of Columbia Public Schools as a school psychologist. Between 1968 and 1970, she held the roles of a research psychologist for the President's Commission on Obscenity and Pornography and a consulting psychologist for the Public Defender Service. Moreover, Ms. Green provided her wealth of knowledge as an adjunct professor of literature at the University of the District of Columbia.

Ms. Green found much success with her creative works as well, authoring the play "These Dead Ladies Are My Friends" in 1983, the short stories "Repetition" in 1990 and "Late Night Blossoms" in 2001, and the first poetry chapbook "Bloodlines." Notably, she has directed a number of plays, including "Songs We've Never Sung" in 1984 and "Where Has Love Gone" in 1985. Ms. Green additionally penned myriad articles published in journals and fiction for anthologies.

In addition to her primary vocation, Ms. Green remains affiliated with various organizations in relation to her areas of expertise. To wit, she has maintained her involvement with the American Psychological Association as an associate. In 2019, she was also associated with the Academy of American Poets. Ms. Green was an active member of the International Council of Psychologists, the DC Psychological Association, the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, and the Phi Beta Kappa Society.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Green has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. In 1983, she was recognized as the winner of a playwriting contest for "These Dead Ladies Are My Friends." Honored for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry and an Editor's Choice Award from the National Library of Poetry in 1996, she was proudly published in the anthology "Ophelia's Mom" in 2001. Likewise, Ms. Green was selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
