A celebrated attorney with more than 45 years in practice, Mr. Macleod contributed for most of his career (1979-2O15) as a founding partner at Crowell & Moring, LLP. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., with offices in New York City, lrvine, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Brussels, the firm has about 550 lawyers. Since 1979, Mr. Macleod has seen the firm he helped found and build grow into the fifth largest Washington-based firm and one of the 100 largest firms in the U.S. Crowell & Moring is recognized for the representation of Fortune 500 companies in high-stakes litigation, as well as for its ongoing commitment to pro bono service and diversity. The firm notably advises multinational corporations on regulatory, litigation, corporate and investigative matters.

Working out of the D.C. office, Mr. Macleod primarily represented clients on environmental and commercial matters. In 1995, he argued a major Endangered Species Act case in the United States Supreme Court. He also had extensive expertise arbitrating and mediating commercial disputes and disputes involving law firms and lawyers.

Mr. Macleod served as Chairman of Crowell & Moring on several occasions between 1984 and 2006. He also chaired the firm's Environmental & Natural Resources Group for many years and served with regularity as a member of the firm's Management Board. In later years, he was instrumental in opening the firm's offices in New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.

Mr. Macleod initially worked for Jones, Day, Reavis & Pogue, where he was an associate from 1969 to 1973 and a partner from 1974 to 1979. Prior to his career in law, he worked as an accountant for one of the major accounting firms.

Mr. Macleod was honored to be a member of the CPR's Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, which is comprised of the most respected and elite mediators and arbitrators in the world. He was a trustee of the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation from 1979 until 2002 and a director of the Notre Dame Law Association from 1981 until 1986. Throughout his career he spoke and wrote regularly on legal topics within his areas of expertise. From 1963 to 1965, he served as an officer in the U.5. Army artillery.

Mr. Macleod received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1963, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree in L959. He was admitted to the D.C. Bar, the Supreme Court of the United States, and various federal circuit courts of appeal. While in law school at Notre Dame, Mr. Macleod was Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review. Since his retirement in 2015, Mr. Macleod has written two books, "A Lawyer or a Priest" in 2016 and "Snippets" in 2018.

Mr. Macleod was a member of the American Bar Association and the D.C. Bar Association. His honors include a Forest Industry Victory of the Year Award from the American Forest and Paper Association in 1994, a Distinguished Mining Lawyer Award from the National Mining Association in 1995, and a Leadership Award from Crowell & Moring in 2010. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Macleod has been showcased in over 75 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who in the World.
