Dr. Kennedy has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of physical education

LITCHFIELD, CT, January 20, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Susan Orpha Kennedy with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Kennedy celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A celebrated physical education educator, consultant and sports official of many years, Dr. Kennedy retired in 1990 as an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Texas after teaching on campus for two years. She formerly worked as a research assistant at Texas Woman's University in Denton, was an instructor, coach and athletic trainer at Chadron State College in Nebraska, a substitute teacher and girls' basketball coach at Lake County School District Seven in Lakeview, Oregon, and teacher and coach at Housatonic Valley Regional High School Regional District One in Falls Village. In 1984, Dr. Kennedy authored a video called "Prevention and Care of Athletic Injuries: Taping Techniques." She coordinated a puppet show called "Kids on the Block" promoting the normality of children with disabilities at Texas Woman's University between 1985 and 1986. Furthermore, she has contributed numerous articles to scientific journals in her area of expertise.

A community leader for nearly 50 years, Dr. Kennedy has been active on the board of directors, as a secretary and rules interpreter for the Connecticut Field Hockey Officials, as a national official of the U.S. Women's Lacrosse Association and as a volunteer of the Connecticut Volunteer Services for the Visually and Physically Handicapped. She has also provided her expertise as an umpire coordinator for the U.S.A. Hockey Region Three and as a former member and chairman of the Litchfield Wetlands Commission. Most notably, Dr. Kennedy was involved with Women's International Lacrosse (World Lacrosse).

An athlete since she was young, Dr. Kennedy desired to help young girls excel in their physical abilities. Planning to become a teacher, coach and athletic trainer, she went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in physical education at Ithaca College in 1973. She later acquired a Master of Science in physical education at the University of Oregon in 1978 and a Doctor of Philosophy in physical education at Texas Woman's University in 1991.

As a new member of the Litchfield Garden Club, she was honored with a Federated Garden Club Connecticut Ellen Carder Memorial Award in 2012 for her contributions. Named to the Housatonic Valley Regional High School Athletic Hall of Fame, Dr. Kennedy was also inducted into the Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame and the Northeast Women's Hall of Fame. Moreover, she has received several other recognitions for officiating and sports, was an Academy All-American in 1987 and an All-American Scholar by the U.S. Achievement Academy in 1989 and 1991. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Kennedy has been showcased in approximately 25 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women.

Since her retirement, she has become a hobbyist orchid grower. She inherited the 40/18 foot greenhouse built by her father along with his collection of orchids from South and Central America. She says it is a peaceful and healthy hobby with its own rewards. She occasionally gives talks to beginners on growing orchids with the philosophy that "things live and things die. Get over it and move on." She also sits on the board of directors of the Connecticut Orchid Society.
