Phillip Badger Recognized by Marquis Who's Who for Achievements in Engineering



    FLORENCE, AL, January 21, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Phillip Badger has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in engineering, Mr. Badger parlays more than four decades of experience into his role with General Bioenergy Inc and Renewable Oil International LLC. He has served as the president of General Bioenergy, a consulting company, since its inception in 19994. Mr. Badger also draws on his extensive background knowledge at Renewable Oil International LLC, where he served as the president and chief manager from 2000 to 2019, when he sold the company.

Mr. Badger began his professional journey at Ideanamics as a design engineer in 1972, and three years later, he accepted a position as a research associate and project engineer at the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center, part of The Ohio State University. In 1978, Mr. Badger was promoted to Extension Specialist and Research Associate, but after a year, he left to become the manager of a waste heat utilization project with the Tennessee Valley Authority in Muscle Shoals, Ala. That began a lengthy relationship with the company, during which he managed a small-scale fuel ethanol project and a fuel ethanol from non-woody cellulose program, and led their biomass applications group. Mr. Badger also served as the manager of the Southeastern Regional Biomass Energy Program for the U.S. Department Energy from 1984 to 1999. From 1999 to 2006 he served as Senior Bioenergy Technical Advisor to the Southern States Energy Board, an interstate compact composed of governors and legislators from sixteen member states.

Mr. Badger was the Lead Organizer for the Bioenergy '96 Conference, Opryland, Nashville, an international conference with over 600 attendees from 23 countries and, at the time, the largest bioenergy conference in the US. From 2005 until 2010 he served as US representative on the Program Planning Committee for the European Biomass Conference and Exhibition, the largest biomass conference in Europe. In 2007 he was one of two private sector representatives selected to serve on a committee to develop the joint National Science Foundation, US Department of Energy, American Chemical Society Roadmap to Breaking the Chemical and Engineering Barriers to Lignocellulosic Biofuels.

To prepare for his endeavors, Mr. Badger attended Ohio State University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering in 1971 and 1973, respectively. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from Vanderbilt University in 1993, and is a registered professional engineer in Alabama and Ohio. Mr. Badger ensures that his knowledge remains current by participating with professional organizations, such as the American Chemical Society and the Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers where he served as a trustee for the professional society which has over 7,500 members in nearly 100 countries.

As a testament to his success, Mr. Badger was the recipient of Technology Achievement Awards from the U.S. Department of Energy in 1985, 1996 and 1998, the Outstanding Technology Presentation Award from WATTec in 1989, an Industry Leader Award from Fiber Fuels Institute in 1993, a Certificate of Environmental Achievement from the National Awards Council for Environmental Sustainability from 1994 to 1999, and the ASABE Private Enterprise Bioenergy Pioneer Award in 2009. He was also featured in 19 editions of Who's Who in the South and Southwest, 17 of Who's Who in America, nine of Who's Who in the World, three of Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and two of Who's Who in Finance and Business. Further, Mr. Badger won a won a blue ribbon award from the American Society of Agriculture and Biological Engineers for his book, "Conserving Energy in Ohio Greenhouses," in 1979.
