A social sciences educator, writer, political philosopher and African American civil rights activist, Dr. King celebrates a long and successful career that began in 1958 as a tutor at the London School of Economics. He has since taught extensively in universities throughout the United Kingdom, Africa, Australia and the United States. Dr. King has also notably lectured at Keele University in England, the University of Ghana and the University of Sheffield, and held teaching appointments as a professor at the University of Nairobi in Kenya, the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, Lancaster University in England, and Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

While at the University of Nairobi, Dr. King served as a department chairman. He has excelled as a visiting professor in the department of philosophy at the University of East Anglia in England since 2002. Moreover, Dr. King has been active as a scholar-in-residence at the leadership center of Morehouse College in Atlanta since 2006.

In addition to his full-time commitments in academia, Dr. King has provided his expertise as a visiting professor at multiple institutions worldwide between 1981 and 2007, including McGill University in Canada, Auckland University in New Zealand, Australian National University in Australia, Macquarie University in Australia and Birkbeck College, a part of the University of London system. He also chaired the political philosophy research committee of the International Political Science Association between 2006 and 2015. Dr. King has further found success as a trustee of the National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside, now known as National Museums Liverpool, an organization comprised of several museums and art galleries in the Liverpool region.

Throughout his career, Dr. King has been very concerned with social issues, especially as relates to scientific matters. Studying the structure of societies and how they function and evolve, he has played an instrumental role in tying in questions of history and philosophy of history with questions of tolerance and the ways in which societies may or may not be managed. A former convener of the Fabian Society Socialist Philosophy Group, Dr. King has maintained his involvement as a member of the International Political Science Association, the American Philosophical Association, the American Political Science Association and the Political Studies Association.

A prolific author, Dr. King began publishing books in 1967 with the release of "Fear of Power." Soon thereafter, he published "Politics and Experience" in 1968 as well as multiple editions of "The Ideology of Order" 1974 and 1999 and "Toleration" in 1976 and 1998. Other books to his credit include "An African Winter," "Socialism and the Common Good: New Fabian Essays" and "Friendship in Politics." Additionally, Dr. King founded and edited "Critical Review International Social and Political Philosophy," (RISPP).

Born in Albany, Georgia, Dr. King initially pursued an education at Fisk University, from which he obtained a bachelor's degree in 1956 (Phi Beta Kappa). He then graduated from the London School of Economics with a Master of Science in economics in 1958 (Mark of Ditinction) and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1966. He subsequently received an honorary Doctor of Literature from Fisk University in 1999. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. King has been showcased in close to 30 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
