Dr. Bonnie M. Beyer is a professor of education and a researcher in the area of educational and organizational leadership.

Dr. Beyer is a professor of education and a researcher in the area of educational and organizational leadership. She was encouraged to pursue a career in education by her mother, a teacher and school librarian. She attended Elmhurst College in Illinois, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and secondary education in 1978, after which she proceeded to complete a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, in 1979. Dr. Beyer earned her Doctor of Education in educational leadership at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1988.

From 1992 until 1993, Dr. Beyer was an assistant professor of educational leadership and coordinator of alternative licensure programs at Bemidji State University in Minnesota. She became an assistant professor of educational leadership at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, from 1993 to 1995, whereupon she joined the University of Michigan-Dearborn as an assistant professor of educational leadership. Dr. Beyer rose to the position of associate professor of educational administration in 1999, and an Associate Dean and the Coordinator of Academic Services and K-12 Teacher Preparation Programs in 2000. Dr. Beyer was promoted to Professor in 2007 and from 2007 until 2010, she served as coordinator of the University of Michigan-Dearborn educational leadership programs. She served as professor of educational administration and coordinator of the university's Masters of Educational Leadership, Director of the Education Specialist program, and Co-Director of the Doctor of Education, from 2010 to 2014. Dr. Beyer continues in the position of professor of educational administration and coordinator of educational leadership programs serving the Master of Arts in Educational Administration, Education Specialist, and Doctor of Education programs, from 2014-2020.

Dr. Beyer has served as chair of multiple doctoral committees, and is responsible for the development of numerous online courses in educational leadership for the masters, specialist, and doctoral programs. She is the author of numerous works on topics in educational leadership, including co-author of the book "Special Programs and Services in Schools: Creating Options, Meeting Needs," in 2005, 2014, and upcoming publication of the third edition in 2020. Among other accolades, Dr. Beyer is the recipient of the Susan B. Anthony Award from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and served as the Co-Developer and Co-Coordinator of the annual conference of the National Council of Professors of Educational Administration in 2000 and 2016. Dr. Beyer is a former president of the Michigan Association of Professors of Educational Administration, having served between 2013 and 2015, and is an executive board member of the International Council of Professors of Educational Leadership.
