He is the Founding President of the American Association for Community Psychiatry, and worked with that organization and the APA to develop guidelines for psychiatrists practicing in various settings, including CMHCs, state hospitals, state offices of mental health, staff model HMOs, and organized systems of care. He is also a Past President of the American Association for Psychiatric Administration & Leadership.
Dr. Clark has a BA in English from Yale University and a Master of Divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. He received his MD degree from George Washington University Medical School, where he received the Benjamin Manchester Award. He did his internship, residency, and fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and was also a Falk Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, the American Board of Medical Management, and the American College of Physician Executives. He is certified both in administrative psychiatry by the American Psychiatric Association and as a physician executive by the Certifying Commission in Medical Management. Dr. Clark has held teaching appointments at Dartmouth, the University of Vermont, and the University of Pittsburgh, has made numerous national presentations, and has published numerous articles. He is co-editor of Practicing Psychiatry in the Community, published by the American Psychiatric Press.
Dr. Clark is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and an Emeritus Fellow of the prestigious American College of Psychiatrists, where he served on the Ethics Committee. He has received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Association of Community Psychiatrists and the Exemplary Psychiatrist Award from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
Dr. Clark founded Integrated Behavioral Healthcare in Portland, Maine prior to founding SelectPsych in Yarmouth, Maine. He is a celebrated Marquis listee who has been showcased in close to 60 editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
