Matherne, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Matherne celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Retired as an academic administrator, Dr. Matherne celebrates more than 30 years in the field of education. Affiliated with several schools throughout Louisiana during his career, he initially taught science at J.B. Martin Junior High School in Paradise between 1971 and 1974. He subsequently held several academic roles, including principal at Allemands Elementary School and Luling Elementary School and dedicated many years to Saint Charles Parish Public Schools as a Bilingual Director, an Assistant Executive Director, and the Supervisor of Teacher Recruitment until 2000.

A well respected teacher, mentor, principal, evaluator, and executive director, Dr. Matherne devoted a lot of his time to the Louisiana State Department of Education in Baton Rouge, as an Educational Evaluator and as a Teacher Certification Advisory Board Member between 1992 and 2000. He continues to lend his expertise to the Coastal Zone Advisory Commission for St. Charles Parish, LA, as the vice president in 1983 and to the St. Charles Bayou Gauche Civic Alliance as the president in 1977. In the early eighties, Dr. Matherne was selected as the Executive Director of the South Louisiana Port Commission representing the parishes of St. Charles, St. John, and St. James, Louisiana. As Executive Director, he also founded the Port Association of Louisiana where he served as its first state president. Dr. Matherne also notably wrote a Children's French book in 1981.

Outside of his full-time commitments as an educator and administrator, Dr. Matherne has long been active as a local land developer. He is both the owner and president of RJM Enterprise in Des Allemands since 1969. Years later, he created Chateau Homes by RJM in 1996, which has specialized in building one of a kind, custom and spec homes in Saint Charles Parish and the surrounding areas since its inception. Since establishing RJM Enterprises, Dr. Matherne has successfully developed 13 major residential subdivisions in St. Charles and Lafourche Parish. Furthermore, he was responsible for creating Cypress Point, a 1,700-acre sportsman's paradise along U.S. 90 in Des Allemands where approximately 75 acres of the property have been reserved for a gated residential community with 32 homesites.

Highly educated, Dr. Matherne initially studied at Nicholls State University where he acquired a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1967 and a Master of Education in 1974. He soon obtained a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1975 and postgraduate studies at Harvard University and other academic institutions in Canada and Paris. He holds numerous certifications, including Administrator, Supervisor, Superintendent, Principal and Teacher in the State of Louisiana.

Dr. Matherne is a member of the Louisiana Research Association and the Louisiana Education Priorities for the Future, for which he served on the Board of Directors. He is also a member of the River Road Historical Society. In 1982, Dr. Matherne was presented an Outstanding Leadership Award from Allemands Parent Association, followed by a Support Award from the Boy Scouts of America in 1989.
