Robert C. Jones Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Now retired from a successful career in education which spanned more than 40 wonderful years, Mr. Jones was employed at the Kempsville Middle School in Virginia Beach until 2014. He formerly contributed for two years teaching at the Virginia Beach Junior High School between 1971 and 1973. As a teacher, he was recognized for introducing music and various forms of musical activities into the classroom to inspire his students. Mr. Jones also provided each of his classes with his annual tact lesson, typically on the second day of school after summer break. The tact lesson can notably be found on YouTube.

One of Mr. Jones' many noteworthy roles in education have included a faculty position at Old Dominion University, where he served as an adjunct from 1990 until 2005. He also co-chaired the faculty council and served as curriculum coordinator and grade level chairman for Kempsville Middle School and was a member of the program development committee for middle schools, chairman of the social studies curriculum advisory committee and an instructor of staff development for the Virginia Beach City Schools. Additionally, Mr. Jones was a professional speaker in his field.

An alumnus of Old Dominion University, Mr. Jones received a Bachelor of Science in 1971, followed by a Master of Science in 1981. A leader of numerous civic initiatives, he most notably served as an advocate for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Mr. Jones was also a baseball coach for the Pony Colt League in Virginia Beach during the early 1990s.

Mr. Jones is a member of the Stingrays Band, a group which has opened for many well-known artists throughout the years, including Three Dog Night, the Beach Boys, REO Speed Wagon and Grassroots Spencer Davis. In 2019, he released "50 Years in 80 Minutes," a CD and LP with 16 original songs. Mr. Jones has authored articles published in several books including "Tapestry of Knowledge" and "Power of Belief" and has contributed numerous articles to professional journals in his area of expertise.

Aligned with several industry related organizations, Mr. Jones has been active as a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Education Association, the National Council for the Social Studies, the Virginia Education Association and the Virginia Council Social Studies, among others. In honor of his career, Mr. Jones was named as the Teacher of the Year by the Virginia Council for the Social Studies. He also received an Outstanding Ideas from Our Educators Award and was featured in the fall edition of "Idea Books for Educators" in 2008. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Jones has been showcased in over 35 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the South and Southwest and Who's Who in the World.
