After accruing more than 40 years of experience in the Illinois banking industry, Mr. Franklin retired in 2000 from his roles as the president and the chief executive officer of Herget National Bank, Pekin. Previously, he held the same positions for First National Bank, Lincoln, where he worked from 1974 to 1986. Earlier in his career, Mr. Franklin gained valuable expertise as a vice president of Continental Illinois National Bank, Chicago, and as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Over the years, Mr. Franklin also utilized his knowledge as a member of the board of directors for Tazewell Machine Works, Pekin and Pekin Insurance Companies. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of the life he has built. When he and his wife were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, he looked over their five daughters, as well as their family and friends, and pondered how blessed they've been. This year, Mr. Franklin and his wife celebrated their 66th anniversary.
Before beginning his career in the field, Mr. Franklin earned a Bachelor of Science in commerce and law from the University of Illinois in 1957. Upon his graduation, he continued to pursue additional education via the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He retains his professional alignment with the Pekin Community Concert Association, the local chapter of Rotary International, Robert Morris Associations and the Pekin Country Club. Additionally, Mr. Franklin has contributed to his community by way of the Lincoln Economic Development Corporation, the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, the Pekin Economic Development Commission and the Peoria Civic Opera Board.
Throughout his career, Mr. Franklin has been honored on many occasions. In addition to being lauded for Meritorious Service by the University of Illinois Alumni Association in 1981, he was presented with an Award for Distinguished Service from the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce. Professional publications such as Who's Who in America have also recognized him for his efforts in banking. Looking toward the future, Mr. Franklin intends to continue enjoying his well-deserved retirement.
