Dr. Myrna L. Fischman Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Accounting Education

Dr. Fischman channels six decades of industry experience to her three positions at Long Island University



Dr. Myrna L. Fischman received a Special Award for 40 Years of Service to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program from the Internal Revenue Service.

    BROOKLYN, NY, February 14, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Myrna Fischman has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Backed by more than 60 years of professional experience, Dr. Fischman serves as the director of the Center for Accounting & Tax Education, the director of the School of Professional Accountancy and a professor of accounting taxation and law at Long Island University. Since 1960, she has also excelled as a self-employed accountant in New York. Prior to her current positions at Long Island University, she worked for the aforementioned university as a coordinator for graduate capstone courses from 1982 to 1986 and an adviser and a professor between 1970 and 1979.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Fischman gained valuable expertise as a community fellowship coordinator and the Chief Accountant Investigator (CAI) for the Queens District Attorney's Office, an accounting instructor at Borough of Manhattan Community College and the vice adviser at Center Commercial High School. Throughout her notable career, she has experienced numerous highlights, having developed a new business machine course and curriculum at Borough of Manhattan Community College and the 150-hour Bachelor of Science/Master of Science accounting program at Long Island University, introduced the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance IRS program at Long Island University and created an eponymous accounting scholarship. An editor for the Eastern Business Educators Journal in 1988, she was additionally cited in The CPA Journal, which was published by the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Prior to embarking upon her professional path, Dr. Fischman pursued an education at Baruch College, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1960 and a Master of Science in 1964. Subsequently, she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from New York University in 1976. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she is affiliated with the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Center for Accounting & Tax Education (CATE) at Long Island University and the New York chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants. In previous years, she retained her professional alignment with the Association of Government Accountants, the American Accounting Association, the Doctorate Association of New York Educators and the National Education Association.

Devoted to her community, Dr. Fischman contributes to those in need through the business education advisory council and the accounting department advisory board at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Previously, she dedicated her free time to the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, Astoria Medical Center, the New York County Democratic Committee, Young Democrats of America, and the Institute for the Advancement of Criminal Justice, among other organizations. Due to her outstanding work, she was presented with the Dr. Emanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award from the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1994-1995, the Lifetime Achievement Award from Soroptomist International in 1997 and a Special Award for 40 Years of Service to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program from the Internal Revenue Service in 2014. Looking toward the future, Dr. Fischman intends to continue parlaying her knowledge to others at Long Island University and Bernard Baruch College.
