Mr. Curtis is a versatile artist who has served in numerous industries, ranging from the military to education and art. Commissioned as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army in 1960, he advanced through the grades to become a lieutenant colonel. During this time, he was with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers until 1987, when he retired from the U.S. Army Reserve. Alongside his military endeavors, Mr. Curtis held a private practice in Washington from 1966 to 1969 and excelled as the editorial cartoonist for the Milwaukee Sentinel from 1969 until 1983.

In the latter stages of his career, Mr. Curtis served as a teacher of art and history of art at the Brookfield Academy in Wisconsin from 1986 to 2009. Likewise, he has held a private practice in art and portraits at the Curtis Studio in Milwaukee since 1985. Drawing upon a Bachelor of Arts in architecture from Harvard College, Mr. Curtis was a student of art at the Corcoran School of Art and earned a degree from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

A prolific cartoonist, artist and author, Mr. Curtis contributed to "The Turn of a Decade" in 1970, "Curtis in Profile" in 1983 and "A Retrospective: Thomas P. Curtis" in 2018. Recently, he published "Cloud of Witnesses: Portraits by Thomas P. Curtis II" in 2019. To expand his multifaceted contacts, he has maintained his affiliation with the New York State Society of Cincinnati (president 2005-2008) and the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (president 1977-1978). Furthermore, Mr. Curtis was a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, and the Order of the Founders and Patriots of America, where he has been a governor general.

In recognition of his esteemed achievements, Mr. Curtis has earned numerous military medals, such as the U.S. Army Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the U.S. Army Commendation Medal. The recipient of a Distinguished Service Award from the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, he was also deemed a Decorated Knight by the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus, a Knight Commander by the Order of St. Gregory the Great, a Knight Grand Cross by the Imperial Ethiopian Order of Saint Mary of Zion and a Knight Grand Cross by the Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem. Adjacent to his professional responsibilities, Mr. Curtis enjoys studying genealogy and history, as well as playing the bagpipes. Active in Free Masonry as well, he achieved the honor of 33 degree Mason. Furthermore, he has been very active in his local church, which he considers important to his life. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been featured in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.
