Dr. Lynne Masland is renowned as a retired university official and professor with more than 40 years of service in her field.

Dr. Masland is renowned as a retired university official and professor with more than 40 years of service in her field. She initially pursued an education with coursework at Mount Holyoke College from 1958 to 1960, before earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Riverside, in 1970. She subsequently graduated with a Master of Arts from the University of California in 1971. Dr. Masland concluded her studies with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Comparative Literature from the University of British Columbia in 1994.

From 1963 to 1964, Dr. Masland began her career as the assistant public relations director at Inter-American University in San German, Puerto Rico. She later worked as an assistant to the director of elementary education for the Government of American Samoa in Pago Pago from 1966 to 1968. Active as an instructor of English at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, from 1972 to 1974, Dr. Masland relocated to Washington in 1975, where she accepted the posts of a project director and a consultant for the Washington Commission for the Humanities until 1980.

Between 1980 to 1984, Dr. Masland served as the executive editor of Northwest Happenings Magazine in Greenbank, Washington. She flourished at Western Washington University as a media specialist in 1984 and the director of university communications from 1988 until her retirement in 2006. In addition to her administrative role, Dr. Masland was an adjunct assistant professor of comparative literature at Western Washington University's Fairhaven College from 1994 to 2006.

Dr. Masland has consulted for clients as diverse as the William O. Douglas Institute and the Whatcom Museum of History and Art. She has been a member of the Council for Advancement and Support for Education, where she participated on the District VIII board of directors from 2003 to 2005, and was presented with a Gold Award for Media Relations.

She has been active in Bellingham-Sunrise Rotary International and the City Club and has served as a board member and past president of the Whatcom Community College Foundation board, Mt. Baker Planned Parenthood, and Western Washington University Retirement Association.

Since retiring, she has published 100 Years of Challenge and Change: Whatcom Women and the YWCA (2006) and two volumes of poetry: A Cup of Tea (2013) and Island Reflections: Poems and Paintings (2019). She has served on the Whatcom Community College Foundation, Mt Baker Planned Parenthood and Bellingham.

Dr. Masland is married to noted maritime artist Steve Mayo; they live in the Pacific Northwest in a home overlooking Puget Sound.

In light of her exceptional undertakings, Dr. Masland has accrued several accolades throughout her impressive career. She was recognized as a university graduate fellow by the University of British Columbia from 1990 to 1994 and a Paul Harris fellow by Rotary International in 1999. Notably, Mr. Masland was selected for inclusion in the 13th edition of Who's Who in the World and multiple editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who of American Women.
