Mr. Minter has further emerged as an expert in historical preservation, representing the state of Texas and local historical organizations on multiple occasions.
Prior to embarking on his professional career, Mr. Minter was a student at Brown University in Rhode Island, continuing his studies at the University of Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1962. He originally intended to follow in the footsteps of his father, a famous doctor, but an encounter with a law school dean opened his eyes to the possibilities in the legal field. Upon enrolling at the University of Texas School of Law, he fell in love with the law and graduated with his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1965. Following this success, he gained valuable experience as an assistant attorney general in the state of Texas Attorney General's Office. In 1971, Mr. Minter launched a private practice in Austin, a largely successful solo and firm venture that he continues to remain active in to this day.

In light of his contributions, he was named an honorary member of the latter tribe in December 1989. In addition to his success in the legal field, Mr. Minter is a sought-after lecturer and speaker. Further, he has written a number of books in regards to the Texas Indians. He is the author of "The Tigua Indians of the Pueblo de Ysleta del Sur" in the 45th volume of the West Texas Historical Association Year Book. Likewise, he wrote "Preserving Your Historical Legislation" for the Texas Historical Commission Reference Series. In 1967, Mr. Minter filed an aboriginal land claim and breach of trust action on behalf of the Alabama-Coushatta Indians against the United States, which resulted in a landmark ruling in 2000 that was referenced to the United States Congress.
A fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, Mr. Minter has been involved with the American Bar Association, the Sheriff's Association of Texas, and the Travis County Bar Association. He has additionally been affiliated with the Travis County Senior Law Section, the State Association of Texas Pioneers and Phi Alpha Delta. Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Minter has contributed his time and expertise to a number of civic and community organizations. He stays in touch with his alma mater by serving on various the Phillips Exeter Academy alumni councils. Previously, Mr. Minter served as a member of the National Advisory Committee of the Deganawidah-Quetzalcoatl University in California and on the board of directors of other organizations, including the Young Men's Business League, the St. Andrew's Episcopal School, the Texas Historical Foundation, the Heritage Society of Austin, the Texas Heritage Council, the Austin Natural Science Guild Association board and the Elisabet Ney Museum Association.
In light of his many achievements, Mr. Minter has been recognized on multiple occasions. He was presented the award of excellence by the American Indian Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Notably, Mr. Minter was also commended with a U. S. Associate Government Appeal Agent Certificate of Appreciation. Inducted in 2006 into the National Self-Storage Association's Hall of Fame, as a further testament to his success, Mr. Minter was honored with the prestigious Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and made a notable difference in their field.
