Jeannine Martin Upson Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Upson has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the field of academic administration

UNION, CT, February 19, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jeannine Martin Upson with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Upson celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A celebrated academic administrator and historian, Ms. Upson retired from her position within academia in 1997 after many wonderful years of service. Aligned with the University of Connecticut, she was hired as an assistant to the vice president for finance and administration in 1979 where she served for eight years. Ms. Upson subsequently found success as the assistant to the president for administrative affairs, as interim director of development and director of administrative affairs, and director of advancement systems.

In a career suffused with highlights, Ms. Upson's greatest achievement as a community leader arrived in 1974, when she founded and began serving as the president of the Union Historical Society, Inc. Fascinated with history, she recognized that Union was the one of the few towns in Connecticut which did not have a historical society. The town appointed her to the committee in order to research the possibility of forming a society, and the Union Historical Society was established shortly thereafter. Located on the town green, the Society is dedicated to the preservation of Union's rich history with a historical museum that houses an extensive collection of photos and other historical artifacts from Union's past and present. Ms. Upson has since also served as the municipal historian for the town of Union since 1990 and is a historian and chair of deacons of the Congressional Church of Union, Inc. She has received several grants benefitting the Union Historical Society, including George Dudley Seymour grant, Connecticut Trust for Historical Preservation and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation for History.

Since the establishment of the Union Historical Society, Ms. Upson became very involved in publishing. In 1984, she edited her first book, titled "Union Lands: A People's History." Shortly thereafter, she consulted on the 1985 book "Lebanon, Connecticut Town History." Years later, she edited "As Time Goes By: Images of Union" in 2002, co-edited "Old Home Day Centennial Book" in 2008 and co-authored "For Little Recompense and with Great Hardship, A Walking Tour Guide of Union Green Historic District" in 2009. Finally, in 2013, Ms. Upson authored "The Little Church That Built a Town, History of the Congregational Church of Union Celebrates 275 Years."

Ms. Upson attended Eastern Connecticut State University, from which she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Art in history 1986. She later acquired a Master of Art in education administration at the University of Connecticut in 1993. In addition to remaining a member of the Union Historical Society Inc., she is a member of the Connecticut Horticultural Society and the French-Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut. In light of her myriad academic accomplishments, Ms. Upson secured a grant from the George Dudley Seymour Trust in 1984.
