Now a retired physician who specialized in pain management, Dr. Manougian worked for 10 years for the Hospice of Contra Costa in the County of Concord, California. A staff member for 10 years, he was initially hired as a medical officer before being promoted. Accumulating nearly 67 years in the field, he began practicing medicine in 1956 as a house physician at Patton State Hospital in California. He then became a postdoctoral fellow in biophysics at the National Institutes of Health and research associate at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California and again served as a house physician at Peralta Hospital in Oakland, California, until 1981.

Dr. Manougian became a medical consultant to the California State Department of Rehabilitation after retirement between 1993 and 2012 and spent time as a researcher for the ocular hazards' division of the U.S. Army. He also lent his expertise by working at area medical practices in general medicine and later in chronic pain syndrome between 2003 and 2011.

Renowned for his research on centriole function and tracer kinetics, Dr. Manougian notably developed a concept of the centriole function, which is used by photoreceptors. As an inventor, he was responsible for the creation of an airway clearing tool. As a result of his years of research, he has authored and co-authored multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Manougian received a Bachelor of Science at Wayne University in 1951, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Michigan in 1955. Additional educational pursuits include an internship at the San Bernardino County Charity Hospital. After completing his degrees, Dr. Manougian notably served his country as a captain in the Medical Corps of the U.S. Army, which evolved to the position of lieutenant colonial in the U.S. Army Reserve, having served twice on active duty.

To stay abreast of new developments in the medical field, Dr. Manougian has been a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Alameda-Contra Costa County Medical Society and the California Medical Association. He is also a member of the American Mathematical Society. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Manougian has been cited in the first edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 24th and 25th editions Who's Who in the West.
