PHOENIX, AZ, February 26, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Marigold Linton, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Linton celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Linton is renowned as a professor and educational administrator with a distinguished career spanning over 55 years. An enrolled member of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians, she is proud to be the first California Reservation Indian to have left any California reservation to attend college. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts at the University of California Riverside in 1958 before completing postgraduate work at the University of Iowa in 1960. Subsequently, Dr. Linton earned a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California Los Angeles in 1964.

From 1964 to 1974, Dr. Linton rose in rank from lecturer to professor at San Diego State University (then "College"). When she arrived she learned that all female faculty were titled and salaried as adjunct professors, while similarly-qualified male faculty were designated as assistant professors; uncovering this disparity and pushing for administration to implement corrective measures remains as a career highlight. From 1974 to 1986, Dr. Linton was a full professor at the University of Utah.

Dr. Linton served the Arizona State University system as the director of education services for the College of Education and the director of American Indian programs between 1986 to 1998. Since 1998, she has found success as the director of American Indian outreach at the University of Kansas where she wrote grants that obtained $30 M for American Indian programs at Kansas University and Haskell. She was briefly active as the director of mathematics and science initiatives for the University of Texas System from 2005 to 2006. She is the author of "The Practical Statistician" in 1975, as well as numerous book chapters and articles published in professional journals. The founder of the National Indian Education Association and SACNAS, Dr. Linton served on NSF's CEOSE for 6 years and on the National Research Council's Committees on Policy and Global Affairs for 6 years.

Among other honors, Dr. Linton has accepted grants from NASA, the National Science Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. The namesake of the Marigold Linton Endowed Scholarship for American Indian Students at the University of Kansas and University of California Riverside, as well as the Linton-Poodry SACNAS Leadership Institute, she recalls her work with SACNAS, a leadership institute for Native American and Latinx postdoctoral candidates, as among her proudest moments. Dr. Linton is a fellow of the American Psychological Association.
