With more than 50 years of professional experience, Dr. Hidy has been the principal of Envair/Aerochem since 1995. In addition to his primary role, he was the interim director of the Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring & Research Center at New Mexico State University from 2001 to 2002, and a professor at the University of Alabama from 1996 to 1999. Prior to obtaining these positions, Dr. Hidy was the associate director of engineering at the University of California Riverside from 1994 to 1996, the vice president of the Electric Power Research Institute from 1987 to 1994, and the president of the Desert Research Institute from 1984 to 1987.
From 1976 to 1984, Dr. Hidy was a vice president of Environmental Research & Technology Inc., having been the western US general manager since 1974. He previously served as an associate director of the Rockwell International Science Center from 1973 to 1974, where he was a group leader of chemical physics from 1969 to 1973. Earlier in his career, Dr. Hidy was the assistant director of chemistry and microphysics at the National Center for Atmospheric Research from 1967 to 1969.
Prior to embarking on his career, Dr. Hidy began his studies at Columbia University in New York City, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1956 and a Bachelor of Science in 1957. Receiving a Master of Science in engineering from Princeton University in New Jersey in 1958, he concluded his studies with a Doctor of Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1962. A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Dr. Hidy is also a member of the American Meteorological Society, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union and the American Association of Aerosol Research.
For excellence in his field, Dr. Hidy has been the recipient of multiple honors and accolades. Notably, he was recognized with a Chambers Award from the Air & Waste Management Association and a Sinclair Award from the American Association of Aerosol Research. Dr. Hidy has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the West.
