He was the founder and President of the engineering and construction firm A2L Technologies for 21 years. Previously, he worked as an adjunct faculty member for the University of North Florida between 1989 and 1992, the president of CE Systems from 1989 to 1995 and the vice president of Atcon from 1989 to 1991. Earlier in his career, Mr. Schmaltz gained valuable expertise in regional management, project management and project engineering with Skidmore, Ownings and Merrill, Burdco Environmental, Canonie Environmental Services, and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Over the course of his 40-year career, Mr. Schmaltz also volunteered for many charitable organizations, including the Cherry Creek Special Education and Advisory Board, the Florida Animal Health Foundation. Although his career has been filled with highlights, he is especially proud of owning A2L Technologies, which was nominated by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing companies in America. During his spare time, Mr. Schmaltz dedicates his time and resources to the South Dakota Mines and Technology, where he is active as a foundation trustee, and on the Civil/Environmental Engineering Professional Advisory Board Mr. Schmaltz has been a previous contributor to the Wall Street Journal Research Panel. He has further published numerous professional articles and papers in his field.
In pursuit of his career, Mr. Schmaltz earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1979. He subsequently conducted postgraduate coursework at the University of Phoenix and Wright State University. Mr. Schmaltz retains professional alignment with the American Society for Testing and Materials, the National Registry of Environmental Professionals, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
Due to his outstanding efforts in the field of civil engineering, Mr. Schmaltz was presented with a Letter of Commendation from the Department of Defense for his work on the U.S. Air Force B-1 Bomber Program.
