Commissioned by the U.S. Air Force in 1957, Mr. Rasmussen led a successful career in the military for nearly 30 years before retiring as the director of joint matters' at headquarters Tactical Air Command at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia, having reached the rank of a colonel in 1978. In particular, he was honored to fly as a fighter pilot for over 20 years of his service. What's more, Mr. Rasmussen also worked at the Pentagon, and held several significant roles, including as the chief of Europe/NATO plans, the vice commander of the 474th tactical fighter wing and the chief of plans for the U.S European command in Stuttgart, Germany.

Following his departure from the armed services, Mr. Rasmussen became an appraiser and consultant for Appraisal House Inc. in 1987. He later contributed for an additional six years as a general appraiser in Niceville, Florida, beginning in 1994. He fully retired in 2000. Additionally, Mr. Rasmussen found success as the director of the U.S. Power Squadrons in Fort Walton Beach between 1988 and 1990. Also known as America's Boating Club, the U.S. Power Squadrons is a nonprofit educational organization whose mission is to improve maritime safety and enjoyability through classes in seamanship, navigation and other related subjects.

Mr. Rasmussen's decision to join the U.S. Air Force was the result of learning to fly. Attending college at the time, he began working at a local airport where he eventually took flying lessons. So enthralled by the planes, he decided to apply for the Air Force pilot training program, which marked the beginning of his career in the military. Mr. Rasmussen eventually completed his degrees, acquiring a Bachelor of General Education at the University of Nebraska Omaha in 1965 and a Master of Arts in political science at Arizona State University in 1970. He also became a certified general real estate appraiser in the state of Florida.

Aligned with several professional memberships, Mr. Rasmussen has been involved with the Retired Officers Association and the American Association of Individual Investors. He is a member of the Porsche Club of America where he once served as the vice president of the Germany region, the president of the north Florida region and director. Mr. Rasmussen is also a member and former director of the Mid-Bay Rotary Club, a life member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and a member of the Skeet Association.

Mr. Rasmussen was decorated with a Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, Defense Superior Service Award and Air Medal with Three Oak Leaf Clusters for his time served in the military. He later received a Best Article Award and a Best Article of the Year Award from Air University Review, a U.S. Air Force scholarly magazine, in 1978 and 1979, respectively.
