WEST ORANGE, NJ, March 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Molly McKaughan with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. McKaughan celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. McKaughan is a distinguished writer and editor with more than 45 years of experience in her fields of expertise. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Smith College in 1967, and working at a few publishing jobs in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and New York City, her career took off when she got a job working for the writer George Plimpton in 1972, which led to her serving as managing editor of the magazine he founded and edited, The Paris Review, from 1974 to 1976. During that time, she conducted Writers at Work interviews with J.P. Donleavy and John Hall Wheelock and contributed to interviews with John Cheever and Joseph Heller.

From there, she moved to a new magazine, Quest, whose tag line was "the pursuit of excellence," where she continued her role as a managing editor for the subsequent four years.
Shortly before Quest folded, she moved to another start-up magazine, Next, which focused on the near-term future, where she also served as managing editor from 1980 until 1981. After these stints, she was appointed a visiting professor at Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in 1981 teaching magazine writing. Soon after, she was hired by New York magazine as a senior editor, where she worked in 1982 and 1983.

Relocating to New Jersey, Ms. McKaughan served as a consultant and freelance writer and editor in Montclair, between 1983 and 1998. During this time, she was a consultant and program officer for the Commonwealth Fund in New York City, and worked as a consulting writer and editor for various foundations and nonprofits, such as the Conference Board, RAND Corporation, Grantmakers In Health, National Medical Fellowships, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Again, lending her expertise to academia, Ms. McKaughan also served as an adjunct professor teaching magazine writing at Montclair State University in 1984 and 1985.

From 1998 until her retirement in 2016, she was a senior officer at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where she created and directed the Program Results Reporting Unit that, through the work of 20 writers and reviewers, produced more than 2000 reports on the results and findings of work in health policy and community health that was funded by the foundation.

Ms. McKaughan's ability and interest in writing and editing stems from her parents. Her mother was a children's book author who published more than 20 books under her maiden name, Elizabeth Honness, and her father, J.A. McKaughan, was a newspaper reporter and then a marketing maven in the publishing industry, ending his career as a vice president of J.B. Lippincott, Co. A creative child who used to dictate stories to her mother who made them into little books, Ms. McKaughan published her first story when she was eight-years-old, other stories in her teens, and her first poetry in her early 20s. An author of numerous poems and articles that have appeared in magazines such as Ms., The Paris Review, Women's Day, and People, in 1986, Ms. McKaughan authored the book The Biological Clock: Balancing Marriage, Motherhood and Career published by Doubleday in 1987 and Penguin-Putnam in 1988. It was written when her own clock was ticking, and she was pregnant with her daughter, Samantha Plummer. Erica Jong wrote a blurb for the cover. Recently, Ms. McKaughan has published Recovering Myself: A Memoir in Poetry. It describes her journey out of alcoholism into sobriety (www.mollymckaughan.com).

She will celebrate 25 years of sobriety in April 2020. Because of her foundation experience and her long-term recovery, she serves on the board of the Global Recovery Initiatives Foundation, founded by Christopher Kennedy Lawford, whose mission is to build a philanthropic pool focused on sustaining recovery for people with substance use disorders (SUDs).

She is proud of her work, not only as a poet and non-fiction writer, but also as the editor of many famous writers, including, Peter Matthiessen, Richard Ford, Ron Chernow, and George Plimpton all of whom she edited for Quest magazine. Editing the work of such gifted writers, she says, served to improve her own. Thus, they served as her mentors.
